Installation
Add Masque to a Rust project, and get Skia building on your platform.
Pre-release. Masque is not on crates.io yet. Until it is, depend on the Git repository. TODO: the published crate name is undecided.
Requirements
- Rust 1.80 or newer.
- A platform that
skia-safesupports. Masque's Skia backend builds with thevulkanandtextlayoutfeatures.
Add the crate
[dependencies]
masque = { git = "https://github.com/fian-team/masque" }
Once Masque is published, this becomes:
cargo add masque
The first build is slow
skia-safe downloads a prebuilt Skia binary for your target where one exists, and otherwise compiles Skia from source. A source build takes a long time and needs Python, Ninja and a C++ toolchain. If your first build seems stuck, this is almost always why.
TODO: per-platform notes (Linux packages, macOS, Windows) and the SKIA_BINARIES_URL offline path.
Editor support
Install the language server and the VS Code extension now, so your first document has diagnostics from the start. See Editor support.
